NOILLY PRAT - Dry 75cl Bottle
A most attractive herbal nose with quince and musty notes. Bitter-sweet in the mouth with a slightly gingerish note, cinnamon, clove and green apple. Very attractive. The essential grape varieties used by Noilly Prat are exclusively Blancs de Blancs white wines, light and fruity. The wines are first matured separately in large oak casks inside the original storehouses first used in 1850. For eight months, contact with the oak strengthens the body of the wine. The wines are then transferred to different oak barrels, lined up in the open-air enclosure where, for one year, exposed to the heat of the sun, the sea breezes and to the winter chill, they undergo a profound transformation. In the oak casks, with a capacity of 2,000 litres, a subtle blend of around twenty different plants and spices are macerated directly in the wine for three weeks, -a process unique to Noilly Prat- which is the secret of its exceptional and delicate taste. The plants are added by hand each day for three weeks: this is the process known as maceration. The Noilly Prat story is also one of technology. Traditional know-how and cutting-edge technology are continually combined to assure rigorous monitoring at all stages of the production process, thereby guaranteeing consistent and impeccable quality.

HAKUTSURU - Sake 75cl Bottle
Sake, Japan`s famous rice wine, is as steeped in history as Sumo or the Samurai dating back to the 3rd century, the first sake was called Kuchikami, 'no sake' or 'chewing- in-the-mouth sake.' Happily, today sake isn't made this way, but back then, rice, chestnuts and millet would be chewed by the whole village and then spat out into a tub to ferment. It was an important part or Shinto religious festivals, wedding celebrations and New Year`s festivals. Today`s Sake has changed much from from early times. It was centuries before they discovered yeast, which greatly increased its alcohol content. The second world war also altered the recipe. Rice shortages forced brewers to develop new ways to increase their yields. By government decree, pure alcohol and glucose were added to small quantities of rice mash, increasing the yield by as much as four times. 95% of today's Sake is made using this technique, left over from the war years, though connoisseurs say that the best sake is still made with just rice, Koji rice and water only and best served hot.
