GRASOVKA 70cl Bottle image

GRASOVKA 70cl Bottle

The specific character of the Polish vodka speciality Grasovka is based on its bison grass flavour; that plant grows in bunches in the clearings the woods of the national park of Bialowieza on the border between Poland and White Russia. There, the rarely free-living European bisons are found there as well. Numerous attempts to cultivate that grass in other areas in the world failed. So, each spear of bison grass in a bottle of Grasovka is a present by Polish nature. The product name 'vodka' originates from the Old Polish language and was derived from the word 'woda' - translated 'little water'. Traditionally, vodka is distilled in Poland, Russia, Finland and Sweden. Till today it is unclear whether the first vodka was made in Russia or Poland; both countries claim that they are inventors and used the cereal-based distillates as medicine. Usually, their percentage was not high, and often they were combined with herbs, roots or. Like Zubrowkas, with bison grass. Only in the 18th century vodka became a pure and clear spirit. Apart from the clear vodka there are flavoured ones today as well; they contain essences made from pepper, nuts, Sherry, sloes, citrus fruit, currants, herbs, roots or just bison grass.

BLACKWOODS - Nordic Vodka 70cl Bottle image

BLACKWOODS - Nordic Vodka 70cl Bottle

Blackwood's Nordic Vodka inherits the 1200-year-old tradition of Viking voyages across the North Sea. These hardy pioneers settled first in the Shetland Islands, far North of Scotland. At sea, a Viking might cool his drink by tying a rope around it and letting it chill in the icy waters of the North Atlantic. This same perfect chilling can be achieved today just by putting your Blackwood's Vodka in the freezer or fridge. You know it is ready to serve when the front panel changes colour from Frost to Iceberg blue (and from May 1, to fiery Viking red!). This is the first Vodka in the world to be ice filtered , as well as triple distilled over Nordic Birch charcoal for exceptional purity and smoothness. A process unique to Blackwood Distillers, their Blackwood's Vodka has been created by super chilling to optimise the product for chilled drinking. The 100% triple distilled wheat grain spirit is then combined with natural spring water from Shetland's sandstone aquifers that bubble up from deep under the rocks of the North Atlantic. The Shetland Islands, lying at the far North of Scotland off the coast of Norway have an ancient Viking past, a people who preferred their drink pure, smooth and often by necessity, ice cold. Ideal chilled, neat or mixed, 70% of taste testers have voted Blackwood's Nordic Vodka their number 1 choice for smoothness in blind taste tests and 80% placed it in their top two. This was against Smirnoff, Absolut, Vladivar and Skky. Blackwood's Nordic Vodka is specifically designed to be drunk chilled at 5o C or less and its exceptional smoothness comes from a combination of its Birch charcoal and ice filtering, purity of water as well as a special secret process! Crisp, bracing and with the smoothest of finishes: Vodka fit for our Viking forefathers. Is this the world's smoothest vodka? Only you can judge!

The recipe was invented by the owner of a City of London oyster bar in the early nineteenth century. Originally there were other variations: No2 (whisky), No3 (brandy), No5 (bourbon) and No6 (vodka). Not strictly a liqueur, Pimms is a gin-based drink, infused with aromatics and mixed with lemonade for consumption. Pimms has a powerful social associations with the English, or London, 'season', and the sort of people who take part in events such as Henley, Ascot, May Balls and wherever else the young (and not so young) in-crowds gather. Connoisseurs insist that only adding champagne as opposed to lemonade, makes a true Pimms No1 Cup.

ST GERMAINS - Elderflower Liqueur 70cl Bottle image

ST GERMAINS - Elderflower Liqueur 70cl Bottle

Robert Cooper is a third generation distiller, entrepreneur and creator of liquor brands - best known for building/creating Chambord Raspberry Liqueur. Rob has been working on creating a high quality elderflower liqueur since 2002 when he realised what an important cocktail ingredient the non-alcoholic elderflower cordials were becoming in London. Handpicked small white blossoms from the French Alps where elder bushes grow abundantly were preferred for the maceration. Hungarian and Romanian gypsies trawl the mountain-sides to handpick the small white blossoms. St. Germain's packaging reflects the artisan nature of its production. The shapely eight-sided bottle was created as a tribute to the vibrant art deco period in St. Germain. Each is finished with a heavy stopper and individually numbered and marked with the vintage year. Why the name? On his frequent trips to the Alps and distillery while developing the liqueur, Rob Cooper would fly in and out of Paris. On the way he fell in love with Saint-Germain-des-Pres and its cafes.

MENTZENDORFF - Kummel 50cl Bottle image

MENTZENDORFF - Kummel 50cl Bottle

Mentzendorff Kummel has, since 1823, experienced a remarkable history. It all starts and revolved about an old Manor House, called Allasch, in Livonia about 40 kilometres from the Baltic Port of Riga. The Barons passed on old family recipe according to which they made for the enjoyment of their friends a Kummel Liqueur called Allasch Kummel. An export firm in Riga, named 'Mentzendorff' suggested to the Barons that they should make the Kummel for export. Other European Liqueur manufacturers began to imitate the liqueur and closely copied the label, without succeeding however to match the genuine 'finesse' of the original Mentzendorff Kummel. Nowdays, the Allasch Kummel is known under Mentzendorff Kummel. It is produced at Saumur, in France, by the oldest distillery in the Loire Valley, Combier distillery which was founded in 1834. Lucas Bols is believed to have produced the first Kummel in the 1570's, around the time he began making gin. Made using cumin, a relative of the caraway seed, and the fiery qualities this spice brings to cooking gives an extra edge. Having originated in the region, kummel production has stuck stubbornly to north-western Europe and through the Baltic States and to Scandinavia.

CHURCHILLS - Traditional LBV 1999 Unfiltered 75cl Bottle image

CHURCHILLS - Traditional LBV 1999 Unfiltered 75cl Bottle

Late bottled means bottled after 4, rather than 2 years in wood. This LBV is a rich, concentrated port from one good harvest, which has been aged for 4 years in wood. The word 'traditional' means that it is bottled without any filtration or refrigeration so that the wine can continue developing in the bottle before it is released for sale, two years later. At the end of the bottle ageing period, it is ready for immediate drinking. or alternatively, and this is purely optional, it can be cellared for a few more years to acquire one of the more pronounced characteristics of Vintage Port, which is a 'bottle nose' - at which stage it may have formed a sediment and require to be decanted. Using dark coloured glass bottles, as for Vintage Port, and driven corks so that the wine can be laid down horizontally in a private cellar. 'Medium, full body. Lots of fruit. Medium tannin. Medium sweetness. Reminiscent of black fruits, leather, sweet tobacco. Classy and rich with youthful character prevalent' - The Wine Enthusiast - LBV Champion - 91 points (1990). 'A very fresh LBV, with violet, berry and cherry character. Medium-bodied and medium sweet, with a fresh fruit aftertaste. Delicious. Drink now.' - James Suckling - Wine Spectator.
