With the launch of a new cassis spirit called Tutti Cassis, Lejay-Lagoute has created the first major development of the conservative Creme de cassis sector in more than 160 years. Tutti Cassis is the reinvention of cassis for modern lifestyles and drinking styles, says Lejay-Lagoute, the French company which invented the category in 1841. Made with cane sugar, but with very low sugar content, and with an ABV of 17%, Tutti Cassis conserves the lengthy fruit maceration, intense flavour and deep colour of blackcurrants. The taste of Tutti Cassis has been described as 'light, dry and very fresh.' Tutti Cassis is the result of long research to create a blackcurrant spirit that mixes easily with a wide range of other drinks from fruit juices to milk, tea, tonic or energy drinks and spirits such as vodka, gin, or liqueurs such as coconut liqueur. Packaged in a slimmer more rounded version of the traditional Lejay-Lagoute Sisca Creme de cassis bottle, and with full bottle sleeve in vibrant mauves and pinks, the presentation makes a clear modern statement about natural fruit content and contemporary lifestyles. Over the years the Sisca core brand (a word play on cassis) has had many imitators, but none maintains the original lengthy and expensive process of a six week maceration of top quality French-grown blackcurrants in oak vats. Tutti Cassis has created a new drinks segment and will thereby recruit new consumers who favour long drinks and cocktails. Tutti Cassis complements classic Sisca. The new spirit also complements Lejay-Lagoute's super quality Noir de Bourgogne Creme de cassis. At 20% ABV and made exclusively from the high quality Noir de Bourgogne blackcurrants, this prestige liqueur has been called the pinnacle of the cassis maker's art.

Legend has it that several men laid claim to the origination of this remarkable liqueur that had so quickly brought fame to the Cape the world over. To avoid serious trouble it was agreed to share the honors by bestowing on the liqueur the name of the anonymous 'From Mr. H' m'.

TEACHERS 70cl Bottle
William Teacher started work in a cotton mill aged seven; in 1830 he was employed by a small grocer in Glasgow. He married the owner's daughter, persuaded the firm to take out a licence to sell wines and spirits and expanded into 'dram shops'. These were basic public houses selling reliable spirits, with rules against buying rounds and having loud conversations; drunks and rowdies were quickly removed. Within twenty years he was the largest licence holder in Glasgow. By this time he had been joined in the business by his sons, Adam and William. Following the example of others they moved into wholesaling, providing special blends for specific customers. One of these became very popular, so they concentrated their energies on producing and marketing it as Teacher's Highland Cream (it was registered in 1884). Export growth was the next move: as early as 1903 the brand was being exported to America. During the First World War, the company voluntarily reduced sales of its whisky, by giving customers a ration card which entitled them to only five glasses a week or a bottle a fortnight. As a result, when peace returned the company had a great deal of whisky in store. The demand for teacher's Highland Cream grew steadily over the years - so much so that the company was able to build a modern blending and bottling plant in Glasgow in 1962. In 1976 William Teacher & Sons Ltd joined Allied Distillers, and today their key brand is among the top five best-selling whiskies in Britain, with a strong position in the world market.
